Think about how much of what reaches you every day is built on one assumption: that you are unfinished. Incomplete. The “before” version of yourself.

The routines you should be waking up for. The habits you should be stacking. The version of you that is always five steps, one course, or one breakthrough away. There is an entire economy that only works if you keep believing that the real you has not arrived yet.

And here is the design flaw nobody mentions: the arrival keeps moving. I have watched it my whole life. You reach the goal, and the goal quietly becomes a starting line. You get the degree, and now it is the career. You get the career, and now it is the title. You get the title, and now it is the legacy. Every summit turns out to have another summit behind it, and somewhere along the way you realise you have spent decades describing yourself as a project running behind schedule.

I know these people. Good people. People who did everything right on paper. People I love. People I have been.

Now, let me be careful here, because you have read this series and you know me.

I am not against striving. I am arguably a professional striver. I compressed a degree into three years. I taught myself skills nobody assigned me. I left a stable career to build from zero. Growth is not my enemy — growth is practically my hobby.

The problem is not the growing. The problem is postponing your own approval until the growing is done.

Because the growing is never done. That is not a flaw in you. That is just what being alive is.

Here is what I have decided, and I commend it to you.

There is a certification that no programme, no boss, no parent, no audience, and no algorithm is authorised to issue. Only you can issue it. It reads, simply: I am proud of who I am. Present tense.

Not who I am becoming. Not who I will be once the next thing is fixed. Who I am, today, as is — while fully intending to keep growing.

Both things are allowed to be true at once. You can be a whole person and a person in progress. You can enjoy being yourself while still becoming yourself. These were never opposites. Somebody just profited from convincing us they were.

In sixteen days I turn fifty. And I can tell you the exact moment this series stopped being a countdown and became a declaration: it was somewhere around the time I realised I was not writing about a woman under construction.

I was writing about a woman who is here.

Still building. Still learning. Still curious. And already — fully, presently, unapologetically — enough.

I am not the before picture.

Neither are you.

Come back tomorrow for Day 15: the next ten years.
