What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
You asked about my hobbies, so I should warn you that this gets a little weird. Most people enjoy knitting, bird watching, or the occasional competitive hot dog eating contest. I dabble in the art of youthification, which is to say I am casually reversing the aging process. It is no big deal.
It all started with a rogue Google search. I was innocently looking up how to get rid of under-eye bags (the answer, it turns out, is sleep) when I stumbled upon a forum dedicated to “biohacking.” This was not the “drink more water, eat your veggies” kind of biohacking. These people were discussing telomere lengthening, cellular regeneration and reversing the aging process, in the calm tone other forums reserve for sourdough.
Naturally, I was intrigued. Who would not want to be forever young? Think of the endless summers, the bottomless mimosas, and never again forgetting where you put your keys, which is the real tragedy of aging.
So I went headfirst down this rabbit hole of rejuvenation. I started with the basics: intermittent fasting, cold showers (absolute torture, for the record), and enough supplements to make my urine glow in the dark. I was not satisfied. I wanted the good stuff, the cutting-edge science that would have me looking like a fresh-faced cherub in no time.
That is how I discovered the world of experimental gene therapy. Before you call the authorities, I have not actually tried any of it. It is mostly theoretical research and highly speculative online forums. But consider the possibilities. You could reprogram your cells to behave as if they were 20 again. It is Benjamin Button, but without the awkward phase where he is a baby and an old man at the same time.
There are a few minor drawbacks, of course. Potential side effects include:
- Spontaneous combustion: Playing with the building blocks of life can get a little fiery.
- Developing an insatiable craving for raw meat: Eternal youth comes at a price, and that price is your vegetarianism.
- Accidentally turning into a cat: Nobody is perfect, and science is a fickle mistress.
Still, who needs a normal lifespan when immortality is potentially on the table? Please do not answer that. My therapist says I need to be more realistic.
In all seriousness, my fascination with anti-aging is mostly about curiosity and the sheer absurdity of the whole field. It keeps me amused, and it reminds me not to take life too seriously. Whether we are 20 or 120, we are all stumbling through this thing called existence. We might as well have a laugh while we are at it.
So there you have it. My favorite hobby is attempting to cheat death and become an immortal being. It is a work in progress, and I will keep you updated, assuming I do not spontaneously combust first.
